    Welcome to Kelowna Buddhist Temple.

My name is Naoki Hirano, the resident minister of Kelowna Buddhist Temple since July 2021.

We are a Japanese Buddhist Temple and were founded in 1933. The temple has walked with Japanese immigrants who started settling in the Kelowna region in the early 20th century.

We follow one of the largest Japanese Buddhism schools, Jodo-Shinshu (Shin Buddhism in English), which has more than 800 years of history in Japan. Our mother temple is located in the centre of the most historical city in Japan, Kyoto.

Equality is one of the fundamental teachings of Buddhism. Our door is wide open not only to temple members but to all members of the community. If you are interested in our temple, please drop by, or send us an email.

On top of regular services, we hold a wide variety of activities such as basic Buddhism study classes, Zen meditation classes, and Japanese cultural activities throughout the year.

I’m looking forward to seeing you.
